Makin' your way in the world today
takes everything you've got.
Takin' a break from all your worries
sure would help a lot.
Wouldn’t you like to get away?
Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name!
If you recognize these words, then you probably remember "Cheers," the popular sitcom from the 1980s. Well, turns out, some things don't change. At MARC, Inc. of Manchester, our individuals are finding their way through this pandemic with a little help from their friends.
In March 2020, MARC, Inc. of Manchester was first in the State of Connecticut to offer a virtual day services program. Read about it in this CT Mirror article from April 2020: https://ctmirror.org/2020/04/01/during-covid-19-disabled-adults-lack-services-and-supports/
As we step into a new year, a new evolution of MARC's Virtual Services is taking shape. MARC individuals are creating their own programs. With the technical support provided by staff, individuals who are interested can plan and host their 30-minute talk show formats. This all came about when two brave friends, Kimberly and Kristin, voiced their desire to have their own talk show. The result is 'The K & K Show.' Using a template of their own making, Kimberly and Kristin have a weekly strategy session to plan out their next show. 'The K & K Show' debuted on December 17, 2020, which happened to be National Maple Syrup Day, and the opening discussion debated which breakfast food is preferred -- pancakes or French toast. Audience members were interviewed along the way. I got hungry! Kimberly then gave a Sports Review where she shared news about the much loved UCONN Women's basketball team. Kristin then shared some tips to keep healthy with a focus on keeping hydrated. The best part is watching Kimberly and Kristin have the courage to dream big and make it happen. This new show will continue on Thursdays.
Following in formation, Sally and Jodie created 'Chat-N-Craft.' Sally has made more than a dozen blankets this year alone on a yarn loom. She is a true maker! Jodie is very artsy with her photographs and drawings. As our resident dreamers, Sally and Jodie fan the creative flames of their peers with inspirational quotes from Walt Disney and a conversation about art and artists. There is always a portion of this show that allows attendees to share their own creations or inspirations. 'Chat-N-Craft' airs on Mondays at 11:30 a.m.
